Court of Appeals appointed Saakashvili night house arrest

The Kyiv Court of Appeal partially granted the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, appointing the ex-President of Georgia and the leader of the “Rukh new forces” party Mikheil Saakashvili a preventive measure in the form of a night house arrest from 22:00 to 7:00, “112 Ukraine” reports.

On the air of “112 Ukraine” the correspondent noted that during the meeting the prosecutor’s office announced a petition for the removal of one of the prosecutors. Such a motion was rejected by the court.

Recall, Saakashvili was detained on December 8 in the apartment of one of his supporters. He is suspected under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in “assisting participants of criminal organizations and hiding their criminal activities.”

According to Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko, the former president of Georgia received from businessman Sergei Kurchenko, who is hiding in Russia, half a million dollars for his activities in Ukraine. He brought records of interception of conversations, which, he said, confirm this. Saakashvili called false accusations against him. After that, Sergei Kurchenko said that he was not familiar with Mikheil Saakashvili.

December 11, 2017 Pechersk District Court of Kiev after the detention let Saakashvili without a preventive measure. The General Prosecutor’s Office filed an appeal against this decision demanding the appointment of a house arrest.

Today, on January 26, Saakashvili said that Ukraine had asked Poland for readmission.
